FIESTA & LEISURE ACTIVITIES

This region of Spain is famous for its colourful festivals or fiestas. These take place throughout the year, but probably the most well known is the Moros Y Chistianos held in July, celebrating the reconquest by the Christians of Moslem-ruled Spain. Water sports that can be enjoyed include swimming, snorkeling, scuba-diving, jet skiing, windsurfing, and for the less energetic, sunbathing. The three main beaches are all European blue flagged, and zoned and life guarded so that various activities can be enjoyed safely. Other sports include walking, climbing, cycling and horse-riding.

GOLFING INFORMATION

Within 10 minutes drive of the villa is Javea Golf Club situated between Moraira and Javea and is open all year round. The course is a 9 hole, par 72 and 3,035 metres. The course is easy to play and relatively flat. Other facilities include: driving range, putting green, heated swimming pool, club bar and restaurant. La Sella Golf Club is 15 minutes drive inland near the village of Jesus Pobre. The course has 18 holes, par 72 and is 6,029 metres. The course although flat has many trees and water obstacles. This is a private members club open to the public. Facilities include: driving range, putting green, motorised trolleys, club bar, lounge bar, restaurant and swimming pool. Both Javea and La Sella clubs have tennis and squash courts. Within a half hour drive north in Oliva is Oliva Nova Golf Club, designed by Seve Ballesteros. These testing course 18 holes, par 72 and 7,051 metres. The club has a shop, driving range, restaurant, swimming pool and fitness centre.

FORMULA 1 INFORMATION

In 2008 Valencia hosted the European Formula 1 Grand Prix for the first time. The race takes place on the streets of the city around the port area rather than at the racetrack on the outskirts of Valencia. The Spanish Grand Prix continues to take place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One supremo, made the official announcement and said that the agreement (a seven-year contract made with the regional government of Valencia) was conditional based on the results of local elections held later in the month.
